donumenta e.V.

For over ten years now, donumenta e.V. has been implementing international projects involving cultural, scientific and artistic collaboration between Germany and other countries in the Danube basin.

Inspired by the Danube as a current source that gets people, things and ideas moving in time and space, each year since 2003 donumenta e.V. has invited artists and curators from all sectors and fields from one country bordering the Danube in each case to team up with partners in Germany to present the very latest examples of visual and performing art and in the cultural discourse of the country.

In 2003 donumenta was dedicated to modern art and culture in Ukraine. In 2004 donumenta focused its attention on contemporary artists from the Republic of Moldova. There then followed in 2005 the Republic of Bulgaria, in 2006 the Republic of Austria and in 2007 Romania. Croatia was the focal point in 2008, and in 2009 it was Slovakia. In 2010 the main interest centred on current examples from the Hungarian art scene, with the latest artistic trends from Serbia highlighted in 2011.

The itinerary featured a growing number of events in the different formats: Up to twenty exhibitions, concerts, readings, lectures, theatrical performances and contemporary dance performances offered the opportunity to experience new trends from artistic scenes in Central and South-Eastern Europe, to reflect on them in relation to questions of collective identities and to encounter other cultures.

With the presentation of outstanding international artistic figures from all countries in the Danube basin, donumenta e.V. expanded the horizon of what it does in terms of European culture in 2012.
